a delegation led by invest shenzhen deputy director general jia changsheng and including officials from longgang district and some key industrial parks seeking to boost international investment visited minsk, belarus between july 17-19 with the goal of implementing the "one belt, one road" initiative and promote investment.
jointly organized by invest shenzhen, the china-belarus friendship association, the cbcu (uvisit) and the shenzhen cross-border e-commerce association, a seminar themed "investing in shenzhen for a win-win future" was held in minsk on july 18. deputy director general jia, vice chairman of the transportation association of belarus бороденя валерий анатольевич, and cbcu chairman zhao qingqiu delivered speeches at the seminar, which was attended by over 60 officials and executives from local government departments, major companies, research institutions, industry associations and chinese companies.
deputy director general jia introduced shenzhen's economic and social development, elaborated on the city's open and innovative development concepts and talked about the youngest, most special, most innovative and entrepreneurial symbols of the city, while also proposing major measures to strengthen mutual cooperation. jia highlighted the sister city relationship that was forged between minsk and shenzhen in 2014 and explained how both cities can benefit from the strategic opportunities offered by the "one belt, one road" initiative to promote comprehensive cooperation in trade, technology and capital. vice chairman бороденя валерий анатольевич and chairman zhao qingqiu extended a warm welcome to the delegation and looked to a bright future for both cities through deepening exchanges and cooperation in trade, science and technology and culture.
a promotional video introducing shenzhen's investment environment was also shown at the seminar, while huang weide, director of the investment promotion bureau in longgang district, elaborated on the opportunities for two-way investment. zhou xuegen, deputy general manager of shenzhen elite import commodities exhibition and trade center, shared specific cases of cross-border e-commerce cooperation, zhang yi, general manager of china merchants china-belarus commerce & logistics corporation, talked about successful collaborative projects between shenzhen and belarus, while wang guangdong, deputy general manager of zte in belarus, introduced the company's development plan.
invest shenzhen and cbcu held a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation in promoting investment. overall, the seminar had a lively atmosphere with speakers receiving plenty of applause and the numerous exchanges between officials and executives cemented shenzhen’s reputation as an excellent investment destination and yielded substantive results.
during their stay in minsk, the delegation visited belarusian state university and held talks with the school's vice president, head of science and technology cooperation in china and the heads of colleges and research institutions about the possibility of collaborating in the fields of science and technology. belarusian state university, one of the four renowned national universities in the former soviet union, is a top university and major research center in belarus.
the delegation also visited the china-belarus industrial park and met with top executives to discuss cooperation, including hu zheng, director of china merchants group and ceo of china-belarus industrial park. built jointly by the governments of china and belarus and covering an area of 91.5 square kilometers, the park is china's biggest investment project in belarus.
located in the geographic center of europe, belarus is bordered by russia and kazakhstan to the east, lithuania and poland to the west, and ukraine and the black sea to the south. belarus, which has a total population of 170 million, is a major channel between from eurasia to and eu, which together with its atlantic ports makes it and an important hub in expanding the silk road economic belt in europe. china is belarus' the third- largest trade partner, with bilateral trade currently standing at us$3.18 billion. the visit by the delegation helped to ensure that shenzhen and minsk will continue to enjoy ongoing success in exchanges and cooperation on trade, science, technology and culture.
