a delegation led by invest shenzhen deputy director general jia changsheng and including officials from longgang district and some key industrial parks seeking to boost international investment, visited kazakhstan between july 13 -16. the group held a series of events to promote investment, visited government departments and business organizations, negotiated collaboration on projects and hosted seminars, all with the goal of implementing the "one belt, one road" initiative and promote investment.
jointly organized by invest shenzhen, kaznex invest, kazakhstan's academy of sciences on cultural and economic exchanges for the new silk road and the shenzhen cross-border e-commerce association, a seminar themed "investing in shenzhen for a win-win future" was held in almaty, a trade hub in kazakhstan and the largest city in central asia, on july 14.
deputy director general jia, sabit narbayev, director of the representative office of kaznex invest in almaty, and mrs.akerkin eraliyeva, vice chairman of the association of kazakhstan entrepreneurs and хусей дауров, chairman of kazakhstan's academy of sciences on cultural and economic exchanges for the new silk road, delivered speeches at the seminar, which was attended by more than 100 officials and executives from local government departments, major companies, colleges and universities, research institutions, industry associations and overseas chinese.
deputy director general jia briefly introduced shenzhen's economic and social development, elaborated on the citys open and innovative development concepts and talked about the youngest, most special, most innovative and entrepreneurial symbols of the city to elaborate on shenzhen's unique attractions and features. jia highlighted the city's favorable investment environment and expressed utmost confidence in the rosy prospects for investment cooperation between shenzhen and kazakhstan by pushing on with the "one belt, one road" initiative, which will present many opportunities for cooperation in sectors such as trade, energy, agriculture, education and tourism.
director narbayev, vice chairman mrs.akerkin eraliyeva and chairman хусей дауров all delivered speeches introducing their institutions and expressed their hopes for deepening exchanges and cooperation in trade, culture and education between shenzhen and kazakhstan.
a promotional video introducing shenzhen's investment environment was also shown at the seminar, while huang weide, director of the investment promotion bureau in longgang district, elaborated on the opportunities for two-way investment. zhou xuegen, deputy general manager of shenzhen elite import commodities exhibition and trade center, shared plans on cross-border e-commerce cooperation, while chen baodong, general manager of light green international, talked about successful collaborative projects and investments between shenzhen and kazakhstan.
invest shenzhen also signed memorandums of understanding with the association of kazakhstan entrepreneurs and kazakhstan's academy of sciences on cultural and economic exchanges for the new silk road to strengthen cooperation in network development, trade and research on the "one belt, one road" initiative. the seminar triggered a buzz in the region and further cemented shenzhen's reputation as a favorable investment destination, attracting many government leaders and business executives, including some from other regions. many companies and institutions signaled their intentions to visit shenzhen to explore cooperation.
during its stay in kazakhstan, the delegation met with heads from organizations such as the representative office of kaznex invest in almaty, the investor service center in almaty, the shanghai cooperation organization china business council, kazakhstan's academy of sciences on cultural and economic exchanges for the new silk road, the astana investor alliance and the donggan association as well as overseas chinese representatives. they discussed their experiences in investment promotion and exchanged ideas about strengthening cooperation between shenzhen and kazakhstan. the delegation also visited kimep university, which was the first university established after the foundation of kazakhstan and a leading and innovative educational institution in central asia. kimep university has set up a talent training center engaging in the "one belt, one road" initiative and will visit shenzhen in october to negotiate cooperation. the delegation also visited efko, the biggest local producer of oil and fat products. after negotiations, efko expressed its interest in conducting cooperation with businesses in shenzhen.
as the most important economy in central asia, kazakhstan is one of china's major partners in the development of the "one belt, one road" initiative. chinese president xi jinping proposed a strategic plan to build the new silk road economic belt during his visit to kazakhstan in september 2013. china is the second-largest export market and the biggest source of imports for kazakhstan, with bilateral trade currently reaching us$10.5 billion. as a gateway for the 21st century maritime silk road, shenzhen is sure to enjoy a bright future in its cooperation with kazakhstan.
