in the afternoon of september 25th, deputy director jia changsheng met the delegation led by sir michael bear, uk special envoy for sustainable urbanization in china, and matthew rous, consul general for the british consulate-general guangzhou. in the meeting, both sides reached a consensus on cooperating for investment programs in the modern service industry, and the promotion and application of uk green building technologies and standards. in addition, the meeting substantially facilitated the british building research establishment (bre) to enter the investor (incubation) office area of invest shenzhen and establish operations in the city. officials from the shenzhen housing and construction bureau and shenzhen institute of standards and technology also attended the meeting.
the main business of the bre in china includes green building design consulting, professional training and certification. through promotion and the training service for uk green building technologies and standards, the bre helps chinese construction enterprises improve the green building technology level, elevates the standard of enterprises, as well as assists the construction authority of shenzhen to complete a new urban standards system. the building research establishment environmental assessment method (breeam) was launched in 1990 and has been improved by the bre. currently, it has become the most popular environmental assessment standard used for various types of construction around the world. it also draws a widely recognized blueprint of sustainable development for global urban construction.
