through the active facilitation of invest shenzhen, wu yihuan, deputy mayor of shenzhen, met with matthew rous (consul general of the british consulate general in guangzhou) and his delegation on august 26, 2015. both sides fully exchanged views on the all-round cooperation between the city and the university college london in the areas of health care, education and scientific research. they also planned to soon sign a cooperation memo between shenzhen and the college. officials from invest shenzhen, the city's health and family planning commission, foreign affairs office and public hospital administration also attended the meeting.
deputy mayor wu briefed matthew rous about the progress of cooperation between the university college london and the shenzhen people's hospital in setting up an oncologist team, establishing an advanced cancer technology lab and introducing famous experts and outstanding graduates from the college to seek development opportunities in shenzhen, under the city's "famous doctors (departments), hospitals, and clinics"project. ms. wu said that ucl is a world-leading institution that is famous for its achievements in medical science, education and scientific research. she further stated that shenzhen, is one of the fastest growing chinese cities in the last thirty years, possesses solid industry support capacity, a strong innovation and entrepreneurial atmosphere, a superior industry development environment and robust innovation activities. the college and the scientific research institutes in shenzhen can work together to conduct extensive industrial cooperation and commercialize the top research results from the college in the city.
consul general matthew rous thanked the municipal government of shenzhen for supporting ucl in local exchange and cooperation activities, and expressed that the consulate would further prompt ucl to cooperate with the municipal government in the areas of scientific research, education and culture, on the basis of its current cooperation with the shenzhen people's hospital in the medical sector. this way more scientific research results from the college can be industrialized in the city of innovation.
