on the afternoon of march 31, 2015, invest shenzhen hosted the "investing in shenzhen for a win-win future – china (shenzhen) – new zealand investment cooperation exchange meeting" in auckland known as the "city of sails" and the largest city in the country. jia changsheng, deputy director of invest shenzhen, made a keynote speech at the meeting. consul of the chinese consulate general in auckland, chen jing and ceo of the auckland chamber of commerce michael barnett also attended and addressed the meeting. other attendees included over 100 representatives from the political and business communities in auckland and surrounding areas.
in his keynote speech, director general jia changsheng briefly introduced the economic and social development conditions of shenzhen, gave an overview of shenzhens four major characteristics which are innovation & entrepreneurship, vitality & open-mindedness, a place for fulfilling dreams, and an eco-friendly and livable city. he then used the near space vehicle (nsv), the "traveler" to demonstrate the technological strength of the city and its creativity and innovation. the traveler has been developed and manufactured by the shenzhen-based kuangchi science limited, and is going to be launched in new zealand in the first half of the year. jia pointed out that both sides need to further expand cooperation areas, innovate in ways to cooperate, enhance cooperation levels, and strengthen communication and cooperation in the areas of high technology, trade and tourism in particular. mr. chen jing from the chinese consulate general in auckland and ceo of the auckland chamber of commerce michael barnett also addressed the meeting. a promotional film about the investment environment of shenzhen was played at the meeting; the longgang investment promotion center introduced the highlights and opportunities in longgang. the galaxy group spoke about its development status as an industrial park and painted a rosy picture of exchanges and cooperation with new zealand's enterprises and institutions in the future. argia corporation talked about the business environments in shenzhen and auckland and shared its experience in investment cooperation with shenzhen. next, the international boat & yacht exchange center from qianhai introduced the current status of shenzhen's yacht industry. in addition, a signing ceremony was held at the meeting. invest shenzhen entered into an mou agreement with the auckland chamber of commerce, under which both sides would mainly reinforce cooperation in investment promotion networks and attract investment for key industries.
the exchange meeting generated enthusiastic responses for the superior investment environment of shenzhen and the favorable development opportunities it offers. many people from both the political and business circles were in attendance. a number of local enterprises and institutions continued to discuss field visits to shenzhen and potential cooperation with the delegation after the meeting. the event was covered by both chinese and foreign media agencies, including the national business review, radio new zealand, and world tv. during their stay in auckland, the delegation also visited rakon, a local hi-tech enterprise, and had talks with its ceo brent robinson. both sides reached agreement on strengthening investment cooperation by seizing the opportunities brought by china's "one belt and one road" strategy.
auckland is the industrial, commercial, economic and trade center of new zealand and its economic capital. most major multinational companies have set up representative offices in the city. as the biggest and busiest business and financial center in new zealand, auckland is also home to the new zealand stock exchange and the headquarters of many major banks. all this indicated huge cooperation potential between shenzhen and auckland with promising prospects.
