on june 26, the shenzhen-silicon valley innovative high-tech ecosystems forum and investment & cooperation promotion luncheon took place in shenzhen.
co-organized by invest shenzhen and intel corporation, the director general of invest shenzhen wang youming introduced the business environment of the city in his opening address. around 200 people attended the event including zhu jianping, deputy director of the science & technology innovation commission of the municipal government; jennifer zimdahl galt, consul-general of the consulate general of the united states in guangzhou; senior managers from intel; a delegation of 12 mayors from cities in silicon valley; government representatives; and major enterprises and science and research institutions from shenzhen.
leading up to the event, wang youming exchanged ideas about promoting bilateral communication and cooperation in the high-tech industry with us consul-general zimdahl galt, the silicon valley mayors, and intel.
at the event, intel updated its latest progress in establishing the company’s smart device innovation center in shenzhen – its first ever - and the creation of a us$100 million china smart device innovation fund. delegates from silicon valley gave keynote speeches about high-tech ecosystems, independent innovation in enterprises and china-us technological cooperation.
during the roundtable session, zhu jianping, deputy director of the science & technology innovation commission; chris clark, mayor of mountain view; mark salinas, acting mayor of hayward; wang chijiang, ceo of hampoo; liu meihong, ceo of shenzhen estar; and other delegates discussed the role of governments in innovating high-tech ecosystems. at the end of the forum, guests discussed investment and cooperation details.
organized by china silicon valley, the visiting mayoral delegation from silicon valley comprised 12 mayors from cities in the region. during their stay in china, the group visited relevant departments of the central government and high-tech industrial parks in china, and attended forums to promote deeper communication and cooperation in the high-tech industry between china and the us.
since last year, invest shenzhen has stepped up efforts to promote fortune global 500 enterprises, including intel, to expand investment in and cooperation with shenzhen. as part of this drive, intel held the idf 2014 (spring) event in april in shenzhen, which was themed around investing in china for innovation and mutual development. idf 2014 also gave intel the opportunity to promote its investment and development portfolio in shenzhen.
the luncheon marks the first time that invest shenzhen has joined hands with a famous fortune global 500 company to stage a high-end forum. the partners successfully promoted the favorable investment environment and industrial edge of the city, facilitated intentions of investment and cooperation, and achieved a series of positive results.
