deputy mayor chen biao leads a delegation for promoting investment in brazil

from april 22 to april 24, deputy mayor chen biao led a delegation on a visit to brazil, and carried out a series of investment promotion activities in the form of staging promotion events, visiting dignitaries in the political and business communities, negotiating project cooperation, and organizing discussions.

 


on the afternoon of april 24 (local time), the "investing in shenzhen for a win-win future: china (shenzhen) - brazil investment and cooperation promotion", sponsored by invest shenzhen, was launched in sao paulo -the economic capital and largest city of brazil, as well as the most important international metropolis and largest industrial and commercial city in south america. deputy mayor chen biao, commercial counselor of the chinese consulate general in sao paulo yu yong, member of the national congress of brazil and chairman of the communist party of brazil walter sorrentino and director of the invest sao paulo wilson roberto soares, attended and spoke at the event.

 

deputy mayor chen biao introduced the socioeconomic development environment of shenzhen, and summarized the city's "four major features" of economic center, capital of innovation, open metropolis, and green and low-carbon development. he pointed out that as a member of bric, brazil plays an increasingly important role worldwide. with communication and cooperation expanding between shenzhen and brazil, both sides need to further enlarge their cooperation sphere, innovate cooperation models and enhance cooperation levels, and strengthen exchanges and collaboration in information, new energy, and medical equipment, among other sectors.

shenzhen mindray bio-medical electronics, byd and other enterprises introduced their business expansion conditions and investment plans in brazil. brazilian medical equipment firm gnatus also shared its experience in investing in shenzhen. capital investment, a local investment firm, expressed its strong will to invest in shenzhen. a signing ceremony was also held during the promotional event.

 

invest shenzhen signed an mou promoting cooperation and agreements of investment intent with brazil's investe sao paulo, gnatus, and capital invest, pursuant to which both sides will reinforce cooperation in investment and promotion networks, medical equipment, and equity investment.

 

this promotion activity generated a strong response locally. the favorable investment climate and promising prospects of bilateral cooperation attracted many from the political and business communities to participate, with some attendees flying in from other states. the meeting room was packed with nearly 200 people, with some standing due to the room's capacity of 150. and the two-hour event was extended by half an hour. many enterprises and institutions continued to discuss field surveys and potential partners in shenzhen after the event.

chen also conducted a field survey on the brazilian branch of mindray, and visited its employees. moreover, the deputy mayor convened a symposium for brazil-based enterprises from shenzhen, was briefed about the local operations of huawei, zte, byd, and mindray, and encouraged each to strive for greater achievements in brazil.
notably, the bank of china, china development bank and other soes offered their advice and suggestions to help facilitate the "going international" strategy of shenzhen. wang pu, director of the legislative affairs office of shenzhen municipal government, attended the event, and introduced the city's legal framework.

 

as a member of bric, brazil is an economic superpower in latin america, and broadly reaches the economic standard of developed countries. china is brazil's largest import and export partner, while brazil is one of the most important trade partners of shenzhen. in 2013, the total trade volume between the two amounted to around us$2,830 million, up 9.67% year-on-year, which demonstrates huge potential for a promising future of bilateral cooperation.
