invest shenzhen and samsung electronics signed a cooperation memo on february 26 for a telecom device research institute project. samsung plans to set up a large-scale telecom device research institute in shenzhen, representing samsung's entry into the city. deputy mayor chen biao met with top management from samsung electronics, and attended the signing ceremony with senior officials from the municipal development and reform commission; the economy, trade and information commission; the science & technology innovation commission; the foreign affairs office; the district government of nanshan; and the municipal investment holding company.
attracting the r&d institutes of large multinational are the key encouraged projects, which fits shenzhen industrial transformation and upgrading along with innovation and development. the telecom device research institute project is a new overseas r&d initiative for samsung that aims to develop advanced base station devices and cutting-edge technologies for china and the world, and establish testing systems for telecom network devices. previously based in samsung's hq in korea, the move to shenzhen will set up an r&d company with over 1,000 employees. the project will improve the r&d capabilities, extend the scale, promote the globalization process in the areas of marketing management and talent introduction of the telecom device industry, and drive its greater growth. samsung is also considering setting up a state-of-the-art production center for telecom devices in shenzhen to complement the institute.
