the institute for urban and environmental studies, chinese academy of social sciences and social sciences academic press jointly issued the “blue book of cbd: china’s cbd development report no.3 (2016-2017)” in beijing on september 13. the report showed that futian cbd in shenzhen ranks first in regional gdp in china, followed by tianhe cbd in guangzhou and beijing cbd. futian cbd also came in first for tax contributions.
the blue book is based on data from over 20 cbds under the china cbd alliance and focuses on the dimensions of the economy, industry, intelligence, innovation and opening-up, and conducts quantitative evaluation on development of innovation and intelligence among china’s cbds between 2015 and 2016.
in terms of economic scale, futian cbd in shenzhen, tianhe cbd in guangzhou and the cbd in beijing were the top three, with regional gdp all surpassing rmb 100 billion, followed by the cbd in wuhan, hexi cbd in tianjin, wulin cbd in hangzhou, jing’an cbd in shanghai and the cbd on renmin road in dalian, with regional gdp all topping rmb 50 billion.
futian cbd in shenzhen was the smallest among the cbds in beijing, shanghai, guangzhou and shenzhen with an area of 6.07 square kilometers but with a gdp of rmb 262.2 billion, accounting for 14.98% of shenzhen’s total gdp.
in terms of tax contributions, futian cbd, and the cbds in beijing, tianhe and jing’an outperformed with tax payment all surpassing rmb 25 billion, of which futian cbd ranks first with tax payments of rmb 111.1 billion.
in terms of economic intensity, commercial buildings have served as a key platform for boosting a cbd’s economic growth due to its large economic density, high added value, and greater tax contributions. cbds on furong road of changsha, beijing, futian, hexi and on renmin road of dalian, wulin and tianhe had more than 100 commercial buildings each and many individual buildings paid taxes of over rmb 100 million, with some even paying rmb 1 billion, which is more than a mid-sized development zone in central or western china.
cbds in futian, beijing, tianhe, wulin and hexi were the top five in terms of number of buildings with tax payments of rmb 100 million, of which futian cbd had 69 buildings, accounting for 53% of the total.
