　　the institute for urban and environmental studies, chinese academy of social sciences, the china society of urban economy and social sciences academic press jointly issued the “blue book: china’s city development report no. 10” in beijing on september 29. the report showed that cities’ sub-health conditions improved, but that imbalanced development remained serious. shenzhen ranked first in the healthy development index in china for four consecutive years, followed by beijing and shanghai.

　　the blue book evaluated the healthy development of 288 chinese cities.

　　according to the results of the evaluation, shenzhen, beijing, shanghai, zhuhai, ningbo, hangzhou, wuxi, xiamen, foshan and quanzhou were the top 10 cities in the healthy development index, with five from the pearl river delta, four from the yangtze river delta and one from the beijing-tianjin-hebei region. shenzhen has now topped the healthy development index for four consecutive years, while quanzhou made it into the top 10 for the first time.

　　to further gauge the healthy development status of chinese cities, the blue book measures the median of five indicators, namely, healthcare economy, culture, society, environment and management and adopts it as the standard to check sub-health status during city development in china. the evaluation results showed that 30 chinese cities remained relatively healthy in 2016, including shenzhen, shanghai, zhuhai and ningbo, accounting for 10.4% of the cities included in the evaluation, rising from 26 in 2014 and 28 in 2015, indicating an improvement in urban sub-health status.
