a collaborative platform for innovations in precision medicine was jointly established by southern university of science and technology (sustech) and cheerland institute of precision medicine on wednesday.
the sustech-cheerland institute of precision medicine will adopt a development mode by combining production, education, research and innovation. it will include the whole process of production and advanced manufacturing, education and training, technology transfer and development and entrepreneurship and venture investment, according to sustech.
at the inauguration ceremony, liu ruying, chairman of the cheerland investment group, said that the institute had marked the beginning of cheerland's projects in shenzhen, which will make contributions to life science research.
chen shiyi, president of sustech, said that the institute will be an interdisciplinary research organization that joins the efforts of scholars in biology, chemistry and medicine, and combines the strengths of academia, public health, industry and venture capital to create original research, scientific discovery, knowledge transfer and real world applications for the advancement of medicine, improvement of health care and enhancement of overall human health.
according to an agreement signed in july last year, the cheerland investment group donated 110 million yuan (us$16 million) to sustech to set up an innovation fund to support the university's talent and to cultivate exchanges in the life and medical sciences.
the shenzhen-based cheerland institute of precision medicine is a platform of the cheerland investment group to promote science and technology transfer and introduce precision medical technologies and medical experts to the chinese market.
sustech was established five years ago, but it is a quickly rising and aspires to be a world-class research-intensive institution.
the university now has 3,200 students and 300 teachers. ninety percent of the teachers have overseas working experience and 60 percent graduated from or have worked at the world’s top 100 universities.
