wang's predecessor xu qin has been appointed deputy party chief of hebei province.
xu is also a member of the standing committee of the hebei provincial committee of the cpc.
born in 1961, xu earned a master's degree in engineering from the beijing institute of technology.
the jiangsu native became an official with the national development planning commission in 1987, the predecessor of the national development and reform commission, and was vice head of the high-tech industry department of the commission between may 2003 and july 2005.
after acquiring a doctorate in business administration at the hong kong polytechnic university in 2004, xu was promoted to be head of the department in july 2005.
he was elected shenzhen executive vice mayor in may 2008 and had been a standing committee member of the shenzhen municipal committee of the cpc since 2008.
in june 2010, xu was elected mayor of shenzhen and was appointed shenzhen party chief in december 2016.

wang, born in shuozhou city of shanxi in 1962, is also a member of the standing committee of the guangdong provincial committee of the cpc.
wang graduated from the department of hydraulic engineering of tsinghua university in 1984 and holds a ph.d. in management.
joining the party in 1983, wang was vice minister of science and technology from 2010 to 2014. he was a senior researcher at harvard university in 2012.
wang became a member of the standing committee of the cpc shanxi provincial committee in 2014 and was appointed party chief of taiyuan in 2016.
