shenzhen has published its first hospital rankings in terms of research and technology, with shenzhen no. 2 people's hospital being the biggest winner both in comprehensive assessment and individual divisions of medicine.
compiled by the chinese academy of medical sciences' institute of medical information, which has compiled similar rankings of hospitals nationwide for three years, the rankings covered indexes including hospitals' investment in scientific research, research findings, academic influence, talent and research teams, academic exchanges and technology awards.
in terms of comprehensive technology influence, shenzhen no. 2 people's hospital was followed by peking university shenzhen hospital, shenzhen people's hospital, shenzhen no. 3 people's hospital, shenzhen traditional chinese medicine hospital, shenzhen children's hospital, shenzhen nanshan district people's hospital, shenzhen maternity and child healthcare hospital, university of hong kong shenzhen hospital and shenzhen kangning hospital.
regarding individual divisions of medicine, shenzhen no. 2 people's hospital was also ranked at the top of seven categories, including hematology, neurosurgery, and urinary surgery. shenzhen people's hospital was ranked no. 1 in six of them, including cardiology, respiratory diseases, and plastic surgery, while both peking university shenzhen hospital and shenzhen no. 3 people's hospital were the winners in three categories.
some of the research findings by shenzhen hospitals have obtained international recognition, including a major breakthrough in cancer research by the research team led by dr. cai zhiming of shenzhen no. 2 people's hospital, and a way to stop the spread of middle east respiratory syndrome (mers) found by professor guan yi and his research team in shenzhen no. 3 people's hospital.
it is the first time in shenzhen's history that such hospital rankings have been published, and the city's health commission, which entrusted the compiler of the rankings, said it hopes that the rankings will give patients a better idea about certain hospitals' strengths as well as spur hospitals to improve their services.
