an international medical graduate school of shenzhen university (szu) was inaugurated at shenzhen luohu district people's hospital yesterday, symbolizing the two parties' cooperation in cultivating international medical talents.
named shenzhen university-luohu hospital group international postgraduate institute, the new graduate school is targeting global graduates with bachelor's degrees in medicine or biology.
“we will recruit 30 international postgraduate or doctorate students this september, and we welcome students from all around the world, including hong kong, macao and taiwan china areas, to join this program," said zhu weiguo, director of szu's college of medicine.
each year, the institute will provide 30 slots for overseas postgraduate or doctorate students to study at szu and do research in cooperation with the luohu hospital, said zhu.
one-third of the students will be assigned to conduct research and internships at shenzhen luohu district people's hospital.
the postgraduate program will last three years, and the requirements for future students include an undergraduate certificate in medicine or biology as well as a certificate recognizing english-language proficiency.
zhu said that although the program was just announced to the public yesterday, a lot of applicants had already inquired.
apart from the inauguration of the new graduate school, the university also announced a cooperation project with luohu hospital group to set shenzhen luohu people's hospital as the third affiliated hospital of szu's college of medicine, which means that cooperation between the college and the hospital will be expanded to a much larger extent.
"with the college of medicine's abundant resources in theory and research, as well as the luohu hospital's rich experience in clinical medicine throughout the past few decades, we believe that the combination will bring unprecedented success to the city's public health-care system," said sun meihua, vice head of shenzhen's health, population and family planning commission.
the university's college of medicine was founded in 2008. it is the first and only medical school in shenzhen. the college has been reaching out to international institutions around the world for cooperation since its establishment.
