shenzhen's consumer price index (cpi) in august increased by 1.9 percent year on year, statistics from the shenzhen survey team of the national statistics bureau (nsb) said sunday.
food prices increased by 2.6 percent and non-food prices edged up 1.8 percent, statistics showed.
typhoon nida made a near-direct land fall in shenzhen on aug. 2, but didn't drive up the city's consumer goods prices. the cpi increase in august was down 0.2 percentage from the july growth.
"the cpi was mainly driven up by food and service prices," wu jianming, spokesperson with the shenzhen survey team, said.
"the supply of leafy vegetables was slightly affected by nida, with the prices increasing by 3.9 percent over the previous month due to the reduction of supplies," wu said.
