a delegation of the shenzhen foundation for international exchange and cooperation (sfiec) visited thailand last week and signed a memorandum of understanding (mou) with the thai-chinese culture and economy association (tccea) to strengthen shenzhen-thailand cooperation, according to a press release from the foundation.
the foundation, initiated by the shenzhen government in 2014, is dedicated to facilitating international exchange programs as a bridge between shenzhen and the world. the delegation was invited by tccea, an association aimed at promoting sino-thai cooperation, to attend the three-day thai-chinese strategic research seminar.
the foundation inked the mou with tccea on saturday to promote nongovernmental trade and economic cooperation between shenzhen and thailand.
the association's deputy president, cai baishan, said thailand has set up 10 special economic zones in the country and it can draw from shenzhen's experience, which has been recognized as a successful model for special economic zones.
"we are looking forward to having government officials, entrepreneurs and experts from shenzhen to visit and invest in thailand's special economic zones," he said.
the association's spokesperson said that shenzhen-based enterprises are welcome to invest in thailand, adding that free trade zones may be set up in special economic zones to facilitate foreign investment.
the spokesperson said that thailand's government is dedicated to supporting 10 key industries such as high-tech electronics, aerospace technology, robots and biotechnology.
currently, there are over 100 thailand-invested projects in shenzhen, amounting to a total investment of us$200 million. more than 20 shenzhen-based companies and organizations, mainly engaged in tourism, catering and property development, have been approved by the shenzhen government to invest in thailand.
