the trip from shenzhen to zhanjiang in southwest guangdong will be cut to 3.5 hours when the jiangmen-maoming section of the shenzhen-maoming rail is is completed in 2018.
the construction of the 2,660-km jiangmen-maoming section, which connects western cities, is progressing smoothly since it began in june 2014, according to a shenzhen special zone daily report yesterday, quoting the contractor, the china railway 25th bureau group co. ltd. the section will have 15 railway stations and the bureau is responsible for construction of 54 bridges, more than half of the total bridges, along the railway.
when the rail is completed in 2018, it will connect guangzhou, shenzhen and zhanjiang, via the guangzhou-zhuhai intercity rail, guangzhou-shenzhen-hong kong high-speed rail and maoming-zhanjiang rail.
the trip from shenzhen to zhanjiang will take three and a half hours. the 388-kilometer shenzhen-maoming rail will begin at shenzhen north railway station and end at maoming east railway station. it is part of china's coastal rail and a western extension of the xiamen-shenzhen rail.
plans show the second phase of the rail, which links shenzhen and jiangmen, will start in 2018. the trip to maoming will be cut to within three hours from the present seven hours when the section is completed.
the rail will bring high-speed rail to western guangdong for the first time.
