the shenzhen municipal urban management bureau plans to build 12 flower parks and to initiate the construction of other parks around different themes, such as sports, science and international friendly exchange.
in the coming five years, each district and new area will have a children's park, the urban management bureau told 20 urban environment inspectors. the inspectors were invited to make a field trip to inspect the lotus flower festival at honghu park on sunday.
the city now has 916 parks of different sizes, including community parks and comprehensive city-level parks. by 2020, the number of parks will reach 1,200 to 1,300.
"we are trying to build a city of parks. by 2020, we will ensure residents can walk to a community park within 500 meters and a comprehensive park within 2 kilometers," zhu weihua, deputy chief of the bureau, told the inspectors.
under the city's park management center, there are 35 parks and 16 country parks.
the honghu park is known for lotus flowers, lianhua hill park is known for bougainvillea glabra, while renmin park is known for chinese roses.
the exhibitions of chrysanthemum flowers in donghu park and japanese camellia in shenzhen international garden and flower exposition park are becoming popular.
