air china will open a direct flight from shenzhen to frankfurt, germany, on may 20, the airline said at a press conference in shenzhen yesterday.
shenzhen is air china's seventh chinese city to be served by a direct flight to frankfurt. it is also the first direct flight from shenzhen to europe.
the flight, ca771/2, will operate three times a week, according to the airline.
it will leave shenzhen at 11:30 p.m. and arrive in frankfurt at 6:50 a.m. local time. the return flight will leave frankfurt at 12 p.m. and arrive in shenzhen at 5:45 a.m. the following day.
round-trip tickets will be sold for as low as 5,200 yuan (us$801) before april 20.
"this is the second intercontinental route that air china has opened in shenzhen this year after a route from shenzhen to los angeles via beijing in february. it is a milestone for air china and shenzhen airlines as they expand the international flight market in shenzhen," chen zhiyong, vice president of air china and president of shenzhen airlines, said at the press conference.
the passenger turnover between china and frankfurt reached 978,000 in 2015, an increase of 8 percent over the previous year.
shenzhen international airport will open five intercontinental air routes to europe, the u.s., australia and new zealand during the summer-autumn schedule this year.
hainan airlines will open flights between shenzhen and auckland, new zealand, this november.
a flight from shenzhen to melbourne, operated by air china, will also open this october, the airline said.
