it summit highlights sharing economy

2016-03-28

the 2016 china it summit was held yesterday at the wuzhou guest house in futian district, with resource sharing highlighted.

“some scientists believe the sharing economy will become a common economic pattern in the second half of the 21st century, with resources shared among different countries, regions, industries and individuals,” said wu ying, chairman of the e-china alliance, one of the summit’s co-organizers.

a forum featuring it innovation and the sharing economy was hosted by wu yesterday. yang yuanqing, ceo of lenovo, one of the leading computer manufacturers in china, said the company is exploring practical approaches to the sharing economy.

he said a simple example is a sharing platform set up by lenovo for engineers and customers. when customers need technical help for their computers, they can make a request on the platform and get door-to-door service from engineers living nearby.

yang said that the platform strengthens connections between customers and engineers and saves the company the cost of constructing maintenance centers.

letv’s founder and ceo, jia yueting, said many internet companies face three specific futures: being copied by baidu, alibaba or tencent, merging with other companies, or accepting new shareholders.

letv operates the video website le.com and produces televisions and smartphones. jia said the new generation of the mobile internet industry should overcome barriers among companies to propel innovation, integrating the internet technology with terminals, content and services.

“many business giants collapsed suddenly because they focused too much on one thing, and they only cared about a single industrial field,” jia said, adding that when the next technological revolution comes, many traditional advantages will become disadvantages.

baidu’s founder and ceo robin li said the company not only shares its data, but also shares its technology, such as voice dictation, automatic translation and image recognition. he said some simple “brainwork” can be handled by machines after artificial intelligence develops, just like machines replaced humans after the industrial revolution.

“the sharing of technology can accelerate technology development,” li said.

tencent’s co-founder and ceo pony ma said data sharing may pose a danger to users’ privacy, but tencent would like to share statistics with business partners.

according to a report released during the summit yesterday, the output value of it products in shenzhen reached 150 trillion yuan (us$22.99 trillion) last year, making up 12.5 percent of the country’s it industrial output value. about 62 percent of shenzhen’s industrial added value was generated by the it industry last year.

the output value of integrated circuits in shenzhen stood above 38 billion yuan last year, the highest nationwide. the city’s internet industry saw rapid growth last year, with turnover amounting to 1.7 trillion yuan, 14.5 percent higher than in 2014.

the china it summit has been held in shenzhen annually since 2009 and is attended by leading it entrepreneurs and investors in china.
