shenzhen ranked as the world's 7th most visited destination in terms of the number of visitors, as calculated on numbers from a 2014 base, local media reports quoted market researcher euromonitor international as saying yesterday.
shenzhen led a host of chinese cities at no. 7 with an 8 percent increase from 2013 to 13.12 million.
among the top 20 cities, six are chinese cities, including hong kong, macao, taipei, guangzhou and shanghai.
according to shenzhen's tourism administration, shenzhen began promoting tourism of the greater-area instead of focusing on theme parks beginning in january.
the city had been reviewed as a candidate for the all-region tourism model city program by the national tourism administration. shenzhen now is working on an action plan to be included in the first batch of all-region tourism model cities.
shenzhen will support the oct group in building a theme park cluster in the oct east tourism area.
the city will also upgrade services at the dameisha and xiaomeisha areas in yantian district, waterland park and the fenghuang mt. tourism area, guangming ecological sightseeing tourism area in guangming and yuanshan scenery park in longgang district. the evergreen resort in nanshan district will be integrated with the qianhai-shekou area.
euromonitor's research project covered 57 countries in total, with data sourced largely from national statistics offices, airport records and hotel bookings. figures were counted from visitors staying at least 24 hours but fewer than 12 months.
