the shenzhen municipal government recently released a development quality report highlighting the city’s economic, social, and cultural achievements.
the report said the citys quality index was 171.01 in 2014, up 71 percent compared with the index in 2010, the shenzhen economic daily reported yesterday.
there are four shenzhen-based companies on the fortune global 500 list, and thriving local brands have raised shenzhen's international profile, according to the report.
the report also showed that shenzhen's cultural industry's added value was 121 billion yuan (us$18.57 billion) in 2014, 1.3 times more than five years ago. the input-output ratio of the city's cultural creative industry reached 39.29 percent in 2014, the highest nationwide.
shenzhen has hosted 489 trade shows over the past five years, with half of them attended by overseas exhibitors. the turnover of the shenzhen international cultural industries fair held in 2014 reached 232 billion yuan, with the value of exported cultural products through the fair amounting to 16 billion yuan.
the overall container throughput of shenzhen's ports was 24 million containers in 2014, up by 31.7 percent over the past five years and becoming the third highest worldwide. the city's airport has transported 36.27 million passengers, 48.1 percent higher than five years ago.
bus transport accounted for 55.6 percent of the travel in the city, an increase of 9 percent over the past five years. most passengers are able to find a bus station within 500 meters away from where they are and transfer buses within five minutes, according to the report.
there were 4.5 million subscribers of broadband internet in shenzhen in 2014, and free wi-fi access was available in several public places across the city. the internet coverage rate, including household broadband and wireless internet is above 85 percent.
shenzhen ranked fourth nationwide in terms of air quality in 2014, with the city seeing 68 days with haze in 2014, the least over the past decade. the city has maintained the drinking water quality over the past five years. the level of traffic noise has declined.
