another jointly constructed college will be built in shenzhen as tianjin university and the georgia institute of technology from the u.s. have signed a memorandum of understanding with the shenzhen municipal government on monday morning, the shenzhen special zone daily reported.
the new institute, tentatively named the shenzhen institute of tianjin university-georgia institute of technology, will specialize in science and engineering.
both undergraduate and postgraduate programs will be available at the college. it is estimated that the new college will take 1,200 students in total during the initial stages.
shenzhen mayor xu qin, on behalf of the municipal government, met with li jiajun, president of tianjin university, and bud peterson, president of the georgia institute of technology, before the signing ceremony monday.
xu said that education is the key force for a city to have long-term competitiveness and shenzhen will prioritize the strategic place of education, especially the improvement of higher learning in shenzhen.
the presidents from both universities said that the shenzhen institute will make the best use of both universities’ merits.
