one of the world's largest electronics trade fairs opened in hong kong on sunday, with about 60 percent of exhibitors being shenzhen-based companies, shenzhen economic daily reported yesterday.
the hong kong asia world-expo arena trade show started sunday and will run through oct. 21. over 5,800 exhibitors, mostly from asian countries, attended the fair. about 60 percent of them are shenzhen-based electronic companies.
the fair has two rounds of exhibitions. the first round showcases electronic products used in homes, offices and vehicles. about 1,200 shenzhen-based companies showed their newest products during the first round of the exhibition.
there are 180 additional booths for intelligent household products in the first round. huang tanwei, head of the electronics division of global sources, the organizer of the fair, said intelligent household products are expected to make profits of over us$71 billion in 2018 according to third-party statistics.
cheng zhiyong, ceo of a shenzhen-based technology company named vimtag, said his company is promoting its intelligent camera that uploads surveillance footage to a user's cloud storage at the fair. he said the camera's overseas sales are promising, with shipments doubling every half year.
most shenzhen-based companies are blending their products with innovative ideas to stay competitive and attract foreign buyers. the ip cameras developed by shenzhen sinopine technology co. ltd. allow users to insert a 4g sim card into the camera, allowing footage to be uploaded online even without wi-fi.
global sources released a survey about chinese manufacturers' innovative capacity sunday showing that over 71 percent of chinese companies take less than a year to move from product development to selling it on the market, which is relatively fast.
over half of the companies interviewed said product innovation is their strength, with weaknesses being their business models and marketing.
the second exhibition round will last from oct. 18 to 21, with 2,300 booths showing smart phones, tablets, wearable devices and drones. a new exhibition area for startups will also be set up for the first time.
