an inauguration ceremony for 12 projects was held in the shenshan (shenzhen-shanwei) special cooperation zone on saturday. later on the same day, 58 deals, involving 87.12 billion yuan (us$13.67 billion), were signed at a business promotion meeting organized by the shenzhen and shanwei governments at the shanwei ma sicong art center.
the cooperation zone is an effort to boost the economy in an area that is relatively undeveloped in shanwei. several villages in shanwei were involved in drug production and trading, according to local reports.
“in the first-half of 2015, the growth rate of gross regional product in shanwei reached 8.4 percent, ranking the third in guangdong province,” said lu ruifeng at the meeting. lu is the vice leader of the shenzhen support team for the cooperation zone, and a former executive vice mayor of shenzhen. he highlighted the cooperation zone’s positive result on shanwei’s economy.
after the meeting, the financial vice president of shenzhen encom electric technologies co., du zhong, said he had high expectations for the projects his company had invested in, and that the shanwei government’s administrative ability has improved. the construction of an electrical industrial base named after encom began the same day.
the 12 projects were mostly infrastructure projects, including street renovations and the encom industrial base.
the meeting saturday had about 800 attendees including representatives from shenzhen-based enterprises like china resources co., shum yip group and omnia marine co.
among the 58 deals, shum yip group and shenzhen sez construction & development co. invested 14 billion and 3 billion yuan, respectively, to build a technology town and a business center in the cooperation zone.
also during the meeting, shi qizhu, the secretary of the shanwei municipal party committee, said he would improve the government administrative ability and build a stable environment to better the investment environment.
over the past year, 201 projects were agreed upon, involving 227.89 billion yuan, in the business promotion meetings held by shenzhen and shanwei governments. the number of projects under construction has reached up to 76 within the cooperation zone.
as a result of the provincial economic development plan, shenshan cooperation zone is a collaborative project between the two city governments. it is aimed at bolstering the less-developed economy in shanwei, with the help of shenzhen enterprises.
