shenzhen aims to become a hub for global makers where innovators gather to share resources and knowledge to build things, mayor xu qin said in an interview about the city's innovative strategies with people.cn, the official website of the people's daily in beijing yesterday.
makers refer to those who bring creative ideas into reality out of their own interest.
xu said starting this year, the city will have a special week for international makers or startups in june every year and will make it a regular addition to shenzhen's creative stimulus.
"we need to make a science and technology-oriented plan to encourage makers and startup entrepreneurs from all around the world. a platform for learning, research and producing also has to be built so as to integrate research centers, corporations and the market," he said, adding that shenzhen needs to provide a stage for entrepreneurs to showcase their abilities and inventions.
"shenzhen will be a powerful platform for international makers and entrepreneurs to practice their ideas," he said.
in addition, the concept of creating an "internet plus" network, which was initiated by tencent's founder pony ma, will be applied among industries in the city, said the mayor.
the proposal asks the city government to build a large internet network to connect traditional industries and create new e-business models.

"i can make my idea into products in the city, owing to the local talents and the complete production chain here," said wei ming-ming, ceo of sixbot company, which focuses on e-training products. "now with more attention and supportive policies, it will be much more convenient for startup entrepreneurs."
on jan. 4, premier li keqiang visited the chaihuo maker space in shenzhen, where he stressed the "important role innovation plays in the development of the chinese economy." the visit signals the government's encouragement to makers, marking the beginning of a crazy year for the maker movement and cementing shenzhen's position as a global capital for makers.
meanwhile, the state council yesterday issued opinions to instruct the public on entrepreneurship and innovation.
