shenzhen aims to achieve a gdp growth of 8.5 percent this year, mayor xu qin said at last week's meeting of the city legislature's standing committee.
xu said growth will be seen in residents' amount of disposable income and that the city's unemployment rate would be kept within 3 percent.
government investments will total 38.2 billion yuan (us$6.23 billion) this year, over 90 percent of which will be spent on districts and new areas previously excluded from the shenzhen special economic zone (sez).
the sez used to only consist of futian, nanshan, luohu and yantian districts, where urban infrastructure is better developed.
more than 36.5 billion yuan will be spent on projects aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents, xu said.
this year will see the beginning of construction and renovation of several roads including guimiao road in nanshan district.
a 4.9-kilomter-long section of guimiao road will be renovated in an effort to relieve traffic congestion. that is scheduled to be completed in october 2017.
in addition, the city government will spend 30 million yuan to build 42,173 roadside parking spots this year.
in another development, construction of three high schools is due to start this year. they will be located in longhua, guangming and dapeng new areas.
