the bavaria state of germany put its guangdong office into operation in shenzhen on saturday to promote economic and scientific exchanges.
it is the second provincial office of bavaria in china, following the office in qingdao, shandong province.
the move was made after guangdong opened its liaison office for business and trade in munich, capital of bavaria, as a base for expanding its presence in europe.
shenzhen party chief wang rong attended the opening ceremony of the office, which is located in china merchants tower in shekou. bavarian governor horst seehofer, who attended the opening ceremony, said his state chose shekou for bavaria's office in guangdong because of its superior location bordering hong kong, its advanced science and technology sectors and beautiful urban environment. seehofer also visited huawei technologies on saturday and said he was impressed with huawei's r&d level and shenzhen's high-tech industries.
bavaria and guangdong have a close relationship that has been characterized by symbols of mutual friendship for many years.
large numbers of bavarian companies maintain intensive business contacts in guangdong.
chinese companies such as pearl river piano, huawei and zte have set up branches in bavaria.
shenzhen and the nuremberg region have been doing business together since 1997.
this year is the 10th anniversary of guangdong and bavaria signing a partnership agreement.
guangdong has been the most open region in china policy-wise for around 25 years now while also having maintained the nation's strongest economy. it enjoys high levels of growth, especially in high-tech industries like new materials, biotechnology and information and communications technology.
