shenzhen yesterday signed a friendly exchange and cooperation memorandum with porto, which is the second-biggest city in portugal.
mayors of the two cities met at yesterday's signing ceremony and both expressed hope for strengthened cooperation.
"there are good prospects for shenzhen and porto to cooperate economically, through trade, cultural exchanges, tourism and higher education," said shenzhen's mayor, xu qin. "i hope the memorandum can bring the two cities closer."
rui moreira, mayor of porto, said shenzhen’s achievements in the past 30 years are impressive and that he expects the memorandum to boost exchange and cooperation between the two cities and fuel mutual economic and social development.
moreira said porto looks forward to cooperation with shenzhen in regards to higher education, since it boasts outstanding universities, as does shenzhen.
in addition, porto is also looking to cooperate on a cultural level, as well as in other areas that can distinguish the cities, according to the mayor, who invited shenzhen residents and enterprises to visit porto and make investments there.
yesterday's deal signing brought the number of shenzhen's sister cities and cities with a friendly exchange relationship to 61.
