born in the central american nation of panama, today a naturalized u.s. resident and something of a global citizen, auri eves is all too familiar with the challenges presented by an international lifestyle.
now shenzhen is her home, and she wasted little time setting her social and professional anchor solidly into the cultural and business landscape of the chinese metropolis.
in 2012 eves and her family arrived in shenzhen after successively putting down and picking up roots in pittsburg, honolulu, seoul and tokyo. each move brought the sort of logistical and personal concerns faced by women and families who relocate to far-flung metropolises. this in turn brought her to take up several expat-oriented networking projects that keep her busy today.
central to her overall career is her position as marketing director for the quarterly women's social magazine, swic, published by shenzhen women's international club. she also serves on the club's board of directors.
the magazine delivers practical information to foreign residents of shenzhen, providing the sort of useful social tips and hard city data needed to make the most of day-to-day life as an expat. the club also offers members a valuable support network, better enabling the achievement of a socially productive and comfortable lifestyle.
"it is important to be able to find information in a new country and to access community resources," eves says, adding, "we are like little fish in a big pond when we arrive and so we depend on each other."
according to eves, there is plenty to do in shenzhen. "it's easy to find new adventures with all of the green around." she says she and her fellow swic members especially enjoy the "easy access to western culture and food."
