city's air quality ranks 4th in china

  the air quality of shenzhen in the first half of the year ranked 4th among 74 major cities in china, according to monitoring results published by the ministry of environmental protection on sunday. shenzhen advanced three places comparing with the same period last year.

  shenzhen has remained in the top 10 in terms of air quality for three years in china.

  the report showed that haikou, huizhou and xiamen ranked top three.

  shenzhen was followed by zhuhai, zhongshan, zhoushan, jiangmen, lishui and lhasa.

  half of the top 10 cities were in guangdong province.

  the worst cities in terms of air quality were baoding, xingtai, zhengzhou, handan, jinan, tangshan, urumqi, hengshui, shijiazhuang and xi'an.

  six of them were cities of hebei province.

  among the 21 prefecture-level cities in guangdong province, the days that met standards in the first half of the year reached 94.9 percent, 3.8 percentage higher than the same period last year. among them, half of the days were in excellent quality and 43.7 percent of the days were in good quality.

  shanwei, zhanjiang and maoming ranked among top three, while qingyuan and foshan stood at the bottom, according to statistics released by guangdong's environmental protection department.

  the air quality was better than that of the same period last year, and concentration of pm2.5, fine particles with a diameter smaller than 2.5 microns, and pm10 has decreased by 11.5 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively.

  the concentration of pm2.5 particles in guangdong in the first six months was 31 micrograms per cubic meter. nineteen cities in the province had reached the limit of 35 micrograms per cubic meter, except qingyuan, chaozhou and jieyang.

  statistics showed that the concentration average of pm2.5 in nine cities in the pearl river delta region was 30 micrograms per cubic meter, lower than the provincial average.
