french architect denis laming spoke highly of shenzhen's dedication to cultural development while meeting with the city’s publicity chief, wang jingsheng, yesterday.
laming will collaborate with a shenzhen company to renovate an aging industrial facility in shekou, nanshan district, into an innovative cultural complex.
laming first visited shenzhen in the 1980s and said that on this trip, he's seeing amazing changes from the city's rapid transformation into a modern metropolis.
laming said he especially appreciated the design and strong cultural presence of public spaces around shenzhen book city cbd store in futian district.
he said he hopes to bring new development to the city while strengthening its ties with france. he said shenzhen is a great place for international exchange and innovation because of its embrace of openness.
"i believe the cooperation will bring a win-win situation to both sides and will bring positive changes to the city's development and improve citizens' lives," he said.
he said that while shenzhen is very different from paris, the two cities share similar pursuits of culture and vitality in the process of urban development.
laming visited the ongoing architectural biennial in shekou and said the site serves as a good example of preserving old buildings by turning them into cultural centers.
